Bob Liftin was a pioneer and the top leading audio expert in the world. In addition to being a leader in modern recording, Bob Liftin was the most sought-after television audio engineers in the business. His credits include The Miss America Pageant, The Grammy Awards and countless others Television Shows. Liftin was a walking history of recording technology.
When Regent Sound opened in 1958, Bob Liftin’s first recording was “16 Candles” by Johnny Maestro and The Crests. “16 Candles” went to number 2 on the Top 100 in Billboard and number 4 on the Top R&B Charts. “16 Candles” sold over a million copies making it Gold Status. Bob Liftin followed with “Tears on my Pillow” by Little Anthony & the Imperials with a number 4 in the Top Billboard 100 and number 2 on the Top R&B Charts. Bob Liftin followed again in 1959 with the cover version of "I Only Have Eyes for You" by The Flamingos”. “I Only Have Eyes for You” reached number 10 in the Billboard Top 100 and number 3 on the Top R&B Charts selling over 1 million records, making it Gold Status. They have since been hailed as one of the finest and most influential vocal groups in pop and doo wop music history. In 2001, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Flamingos cover version of "I Only Have Eyes for You" was ranked number 158 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
There was a period of three consecutive weeks that year when 37 out of the Billboard Top 100 records were Recorded and Mastered at Regent Sound. Regent Sound & Bob Liftin stand alone as the King of Audio in terms of accuracy, sound and fidelity. Regent Sound played host and recorded Connie Francis, Duane Eddy, Gary "U.S.” Bonds, Roberta Flack, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Les McCann, Roland Kirk, John Coltrane, Tony Bennett, Bette Midler, Carly Simon, James Taylor The Allman Brothers and countless others. Over 50,000 recordings were made at Regent Sound from 1958-1982. Bob Liftin had long close ties with major manufactures such as Ampex and MCI and has worked with their engineers to develop improvements in equipment the most engineers took it for granted. In 1959 Bob Liftin was the first person in the world to install a Neumann Lathe with a Variable Pitch in Regent Sound.
